Liberty Baptist Church of Pace Florida organized on Saturday, February 7th, 2004 with a men’s prayer meeting in the home of John Gunton at 6622 Hinote Street. Missionary Greg Johnson, John Gunton, Bob Smith, Grady Adams, Benjamin Johnson, Josh Bohannon and others were at this first meeting.  Liberty Baptist Church’s  first Sunday service was held on February 8, 2004.  Charter Membership was held open for the period of one month. Weekly services included Sunday school and preaching services in the morning and an evening preaching service. Midweek Prayer services were held on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm.  Greg Johnson was called to be the Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church of Pace.

Being Mission minded, Liberty Baptist Church decided to form a mission board named Open Arms Missions, Inc. designed to assist missionaries.    This board is under the Liberty Baptist Church’s authority.  At the present time these are missionaries with

Open Arms Mission, Inc.:
Jeremy Moore to the Deaf
Edwin Ongkiko to the Philippines
Pat Ragan to the Philippines
John Gunton –Printing Ministry
Secretary  Renita Gunton

This mission board does not keep any of the missionary’s money for processing or handing fees.

Upon having up to 60 people regularly in services we needed a larger place to worship. Bro Greg contacted S.S. Dixon School in Pace. We were allowed to meet in the Cafeteria. About August of 2004 Bro. Greg decided to go back to Kazakhstan as a missionary in September 2004. Our Church called Eddie Potts to be the pastor in September 2004.  Bro Potts was the pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Brewton Alabama, when he accepted the call. The Church held services at S.S. Dixon until plumbing repairs forced us to move our services to Hobbs Middle School in Milton.  All the while the church body was one the lookout for property to buy or remodel for our permanent church home.

In October 2005 Bro Potts came in contact with Stephen Jernigan who had a building for sale.  Liberty Baptist was able to make arrangements to purchase this building at 6763 Margaret Street.  Our building came furnished with items for a worship service.
